Season for Health and Fun

It is the most wonderful time of the year… An amazing celebration of the holiday with loved ones: Family, friends, music, lights, celebrating, thankfulness, fun, and delicious foods and drinks! When it comes to the holidays and health, many people completely fall off of the bandwagon and swear to “start over” in the New Year.

And many others feel like they cannot go to a holiday party or enjoy themselves because they will eat too much unhealthy food or miss their workout the next morning. They do everything they can to stay on track.. And then they miss the joy of the holidays.

You may be somewhere in the middle.

Or you may just be looking for some simple tips and tricks. Well you can have your cake AND eat it too over the holidays!

Here are my Top 5 Tips to help you stay healthy over the holidays:

Schedule Your Workouts

Whether you prefer to use an agenda or an app, write it down.

There’s a much better chance that you’ll actually get it done if you schedule it.

Avoid Sitting for Too Long

Sitting for prolonged periods of time has been proven to be hazardous to our health. Remember this is not just for when you’re at the office, but also when you are watching holiday movies, enjoying a meal with family, or writing out Christmas cards!

Make it a habit to get up and move frequently.

Drink all the water

With colder weather and busier days, it is easy to forget to drink enough water. Use an oversized water bottle that you can refill several times a day.

Small Segments of Exercise

A little is better than nothing when it comes to exercise.

Remember that 5-10 minutes may be all that you need to feel better and it is certainly better than no workout at all!

Google Tabata workouts and give one a try if you don’t believe me. 🙂

Eat in Moderation

Enjoying yourself during the holidays doesn’t  mean you that you have to be overly obsessed with what you eat nor does it mean that you need to eat every cookie that you see. Eat in moderation and indulge every now and then

You can choose to eat in moderation – and still enjoy holiday foods and drinks!

Opt for a healthier or lighter lunch if you know that you will be having some wine and dessert later than night.

Choose the less cheesy meal and save room for some eggnog.

Decide which foods are delicious and which are not worth the indulgence.

EX: Cheese and wine – yes, please. Big plate of greasy pasta alfredo – not worth it to me.

Try these healthy swaps out!
